That Smell

Trifecta gave us a fun 33 word weekend challenge:

We want you to give us a 33-word example of personification.  Wait.  What?  You forget what that is?  It's the practice of attaching human traits and characteristics with inanimate objects, phenomena and animals (http://literary-devices.com).

I don't think I have to explain what I am personifying here...

Reaching out
Tickling your nose
Knowing it will
Slap your face
When you look.
Could someone tell me
How something so small
Could produce that smell

Do I have to change your diaper?

    1. It is amazing how they can do something like that then smile at you as if to say "Ha ha. I did it and now you have to fix it."

  2. Everyone who has experienced the funk of a freshly made deposit, completely understands your poem. Not only is there personification but, sensory impact, too! Bravo!

    1. Oh yeah. Sensory impact is one way to put that particular chore. Maybe sensory overload instead?

  4. 'tickling your nose' transitioning to 'slap your face' is never a good sign, is it? It was leaking out before I knew what had hit me...

    1. Oh yeah...the leakers. Thank goodness I haven't had one of those in a while. Then it's not just the diaper but the clothes as well.

    1. According to my hubby, it raises a few more things than just a stink once in a while. I can only imagine how much worse it will get as my son transitions to baby food in addition to his bottles.

    1. I've tried that. Doesn't always work. And, yeah, some of those make me wonder if they really are alive at times.

    1. And that just seems so wrong. How can they be so cute and so nasty at the same time?

    1. Thanks! It is one of those rather unique experiences one never forgets. I am thoroughly convinced of that right now.

  9. Oh my, I remember this. The pause in activity followed by a smile and reddening of the face meant only one thing....rock, paper scissors to find out who had to clean it.

    1. And that occasional bit of grunting in there just seals the deal. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I'm glad! When living with that kind of stench one has to find the humor in it. Thanks for stopping!

  11. So funny.. It is absolutely amazing how such a tiny creature can produce - well, what they produce. I love finding the humor in the unexpected!

    1. And this is a subject you must find some humor in once in a while! I have a theory that the smell must be inversely proportional to their size, at least until they are potty trained. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. But you know you can't forget it! And, might I add, I can't wait until he's big enough to potty train. However, as he is only 5 months old right now, it will be a while.

  19. Oohhh yes. Nothing more potent! Well done!
