I offer my response:

“Study hard.”
“Find a better life.”
No!
Look up!
Life is passing you by.
It’s about the
Journey
Not the destination.
With you head down
Books scattered ‘round
You’re missing the point.

  1. You are very right, it is about the journey. I'm glad you reminded me.

    1. Thanks, Ally! It's a lesson I'm working hard to remember myself.

  2. You're right. And you've got to look up once in a while to not get a crook in your neck too ;-) Like the tone of this, playfully wise. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love this! We are told so often to study, work hard, plan for the future......... then suddenly, life has passed by. Wonderful take!

  4. I suppose it all depends on the dreams involved. In a perfect world, there should be time for work and time for play. A balanced life is usually a good life. But, sometimes, the dreams are so urgent or big that sacrifices have to be made until the dream is realized. I think of that with regard to my writing. I choose my children and my teaching career over my writing and, as such, I enjoy life but, as of today, am unpublished. Whenever the time comes that being a published author becomes the main goal in my life then, and only then, will I erect the walls around myself that will allow the kind of intensity required to complete a book. Right now, life is too precious to miss. :)

    1. Amazing insight, Tom. And, you're right. I'm right there with you in being unpublished mainly because I have chosen to put my efforts into my family and grad school right now. And I agree, life is too precious to miss, particularly when children are involved. Thanks!

  6. I love that exhortation: "No! Look up!" Great philosophy, though I would hope she could keep the books too. :)
