Random Sunday – Mosquitos, Naps, and Laundry

Holy Moly, Rocky, were there mosquitoes out this weekend.  I swear, there were so many mosquitoes out I think they would have literally carried my son away had they been given a chance.  We all stayed inside at one point because of them.  My sister, who was actually in a totally different part of the state, said she thought she might need a blood transfusion due to blood loss from the suckers!  Okay.  Maybe it wasn't really that bad, but it was certainly not pleasant and I have the mosquito bites to prove it.  How was it where you were?

I was really impressed with my son today.  He took a 3.5 hour nap on the way home.  Considering the car ride ended up being about 7 hours, this was quite impressive.  It helps he didn't sleep well last night and didn't take a good nap yesterday.  It also helps that he has been so busy running around and playing all weekend.  The more impressive part is that I had to wake him up at that point because it had gotten late enough I didn't know if he’d sleep tonight if I let him sleep much longer.  Makes me wonder how long he would have slept on his own.

I have determined that, while I love going out of town for different things, I dislike coming home.  There are several things that play into this dislike.  But the one of which I am discussing today is the laundry.  There is a ginormous pile of laundry to do now.  Plus what didn't get done before we left.  My house is seriously in danger of being taken over by the laundry at the moment.  I’m really hoping to have it done before it does.  Wish me luck.

Random Sunday – Cold, Laundry, and Chairs

Can I just say that I am really sick of the cold?  I know.  98% of the country is saying the same thing.  But, come on people!  We here in MN have been colder THAN THE SURFACE OF MARS!!!  There is just something wrong with that.  And it needs to change – ASAP.

I had a rather humorous observation regarding laundry today.  My son loves to be in the laundry room with me.  Might have something to do with the fact that it’s where the vacuum is and he has an odd obsession with the vacuum.  But, I figure, while he’s in there with me, he can help as much as a 17 month old can with the laundry.  He’s done it enough times with me now that he knows the basic routine.  Obviously he can’t do it all on his own – he’s a little short for that – but he gets what needs to happen.  My observation was that he is doing better than many of the teenagers I work with regarding how to do laundry.

I offer a piece of advice for you.  Do not get cane backed chairs.  I know they really aren’t in style much anymore and my dining room set is rather old.  But avoid them at all costs anyways.  Every rivet, button, belt, item in back pockets, etc. catches on the cane and tears it to shreds.  I sweep (or should sweep realistically) almost every day because there are little bits of cane all over the floor regularly.  I can’t wait to get rid of the chairs, the cane on the chairs, or maybe both.  Someday.  Until then – I sweep.

Random Sunday - Rain, Teeth, and Laundry

I know we need the rain here in MN.  We went for the entire month of August with less than 1 inch of rain.  September wasn’t much better.  But, it’s been raining, off and on, for 2 days now.  I have heard rumors of slight chances of snow even.  I’m sick of it.  I’d like to see the sun for a bit.  Maybe tomorrow.

I am learning, post haste, to hate teeth.  Not mine.  My son’s molars.  If I am right (keep in mind I was checking by sticking my finger in his mouth where he was biting me with his 8 teeth he already has), I think he’s getting like 2 in at the same time.  This sucks.  He won’t sleep well, he won’t eat well and he gets just crabby and clingy.  I don’t blame him.  I probably would too if I were in that kind of pain.  It’s just that he’s not normally like that.  So, that he is like that right now is even worse.  I hope they come through soon before this kills me.

And what is it with laundry?  I swear it multiplies in the dark in the laundry room.  I think I did like 7-8 loads of laundry today and there are only 3 of us living in the house.  One of which is a 1 year old.  Where does it come from?  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d rather do laundry than dishes – which grow exponentially around here.  But, this is ridiculous.  The laundry needs to slow down, just a bit.
