Most of my writing goals are short term at the
moment. One goal I have is to write at least 4-5 posts per week here.
Much of those tend to be fiction but I'm trying to branch out a bit into
non-fiction posts as well.
Another goal I have is to finish a WIP I started several years ago. The story has grown way beyond what I’d thought. It's currently at about 78,000 words and is only 2/3 done.
A third goal I have is to edit two completed drafts of novel length works. One is from NaNoWriMo 2011. The other is from Camp NaNoWriMo 2012. The first draft has been reviewed a time or two but I needed some distance (and input from my sister) to seriously revise. The second draft hasn't been touched since finishing it in June.
Once these short term goals are met, then I can entertain some new projects. I don't have as many concrete long term goals. Here's what I do have:
I'd like to get a final draft of my NaNoWriMo 2011 novel finalized on Smashwords. It's up there as a draft in the special NaNoWriMo catalog there. But I want it as a final draft.
I'd also like to get the Camp NaNoWriMo novel up there seeing as it’s a sequel to the first NaNo novel. That'll take a bit longer and more work.
Finally, I'd like to eventually get something of mine published as a paid piece. I think that'd be awesome. I have not yet had that opportunity.
So, there it is. There are my goals for my writing as they stand currently. Here's my disclaimer, though. I have a 6 week old baby here. They are subject to change at any moment based, well, mainly on his whims.

Love your goals. I'd love to get something published too (haven't had the privilege yet either) and it's one of my biggest dreams. Sounds like a lot on the go, I hope it falls into place for you sometime soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThe scary part is that I've been really tempted to start yet more projects! But I know I've got almost too much going on already. Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement.
DeleteOh... a six week old baby! Best of luck with your writing goals -- they sound ambitious and wonderful. And blessings on the new member of your family! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! He's actually been great inspiration for some writing - when I can get to it around taking care of him...
DeleteI already thought your goals were awesome, and then you snuck in that new baby bit! And I thought I was busy? Kudos for you though for holding on to what makes you innately you...your craft. It's important for our families, especially our kids, to understand that we have interests and talents outside of scrubbing a toilet or putting together a meal in 15 minutes. I'll be cheering for you for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Setting that example for my son is important to me as well. Once in a while I have to remind myself of that as I ignore the mess in the kitchen, the laundry, or whatever else is waiting...
DeleteLofty goals! I didn't realize you were such a prolific writer. I can't imaging juggling so many projects AND a six week old. Good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with the way I tend to write is that I rarely finish things. I get them started then get distracted by something else. The two NaNo projects are the first things I've finished a draft of in a long time. Thanks for stopping!
DeleteOne thing at a time, and you've got a plan. Seriously, just keep writing. Thanks for sharing your dreams with us!
ReplyDeleteYep! I've been learning to take it just one thing at a time, particularly now that I have my son as well! Thanks!
DeleteThe good thing about 6 week old babies is that they're sweet and snuggly enough to make you forgive them immediately when your goals flip flop around their schedules and whims :) I think your goals are very concrete and achievable!
ReplyDeleteThat is a major bonus in favor of little babies! Thanks for the support.
DeleteWow, great goals and if you accomplish even ONE with a new baby....well, you are my hero :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Wow. I don't know that I would qualify for hero status but I appreciate the support and encouragement from that!
DeleteThese are very achievable goals, even with a tiny bundle in your arms, and I look forward to you reaching them!
ReplyDeleteAs for the nonfiction, as a new mom, you will have many, many topics to share regarding your son. I've been collecting blackmail material for the last four years, for example, because I know that I am going to need it when my son is a teenager.
That is the nice part, isn't it? All that blackmail material...
DeleteThanks for the vote of confidence in my goals.
Excellent goals! Plug away!! :) Your readers await!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYour goals are so clear AND a new baby! You're not only amazing, you're a superhero.
ReplyDeleteA superhero? Only if my powers can be wiping away all laundry, dirty dishes, messy houses and stinky diapers with one gesture! :-)
DeleteYour goals are impressive! And so within reach. I know you'll suceed.
ReplyDeleteAnd hug that wee one extra from me.
I'll do that! Thanks for the support, both with my writing goals and the hugs for my son.
DeleteCongratulations on your new baby! And Congrats on doing NaNoWriMo. I have wanted to for several years, but I'm not sure I can dedicate the time to it just yet. Great goals!
ReplyDeleteIt was a challenge to make it last year. Not sure with my son I can do it again this year. I haven't decided if I'm even going to try or not. Thanks for stopping by!
